What's the Deal with Bridesmaids?

What is the deal with bridesmaids?  How many should you have?  What’s the difference between a maid of honor and matron of honor?  What if I want a man as my honor attendant?  We are here to answer all of your questions and give you a little history lesson on bridal attendants.

The tradition of having bridesmaids started in Ancient Rome.  They were said to be highly honored wedding guests. Their jobs were to protect the bride.  They dressed the same as the bride to confuse the evil forces.  There were always ten bridesmaids and ten groomsmen, simply because ten witnesses were required at ancient Roman weddings.  The tradition eventually faded away.

These days, brides can have any amount bridesmaids as she wants, whether that is 1 or 10. One of the biggest decisions a bride makes is to decide who will be your maid and/or matron of honor for your wedding.  The difference?  A Maid of Honor  is not married. A Matron of Honor is married.  It is also perfectly acceptable not to have either.  Is your best friend a man?  Then have him be your Man of Honor.

The most important thing is to be surrounded with the people who matter most to you on your special day.  They are there to support you, whether that is fixing the train on your dress, or giving you a hug when you need one.  Think about this: If someone tends to make it ALL about them, tread lightly.  If you have to second guess their participation, then that may give you your answer.

Most of all, be beautiful and HAVE FUN!

Delray Beach Wedding ~ Laura and Ryan are Married!

Laura and Ryan are married!

SO happy to share the festive wedding of Laura and Ryan! Laura contacted us a few months before her wedding. Like most brides, she was feeling anxiety over the coordination of the actual wedding day. Who would oversee vendors? Who would set up the popcorn bar and more importantly, who would set up all of her delightfully cute DIY projects? Well, she chose LLE and we are so happy to have shared Laura and Ryan's special day held at the Old School Square in Delray Beach!

The colors of the dresses really POP and make you smile!  This was a super fun wedding party! Which totally reflected the personalities of Laura and Ryan! They came to have fun and it showed!

Can you guess why these girls look so happy? Well yes because there friend is getting married but they also got to pick their own dresses! Dresses they feel beautiful in and can wear again! #AllSmiles

Love the personalized straws! We did mention fun right? LOL!

Paper bouquets, ribbon backdrop... need we say more??

Meaningful touches are what make your wedding YOUR wedding!

Glitter confetti, yellow flowers and homemade jam ~ Just a few of our favorite things... The bride's too!

At the end of the night, the wedding went off without a hitch, Laura and Ryan were happily married, and everyone had a fantastic time! Isn't that really what it's all about?

First Look~ Yay or Nay?

First Look~ The opportunity for a Bride and Groom to see each other before a wedding ceremony. It's a time to share those first few moments alone before the festivities of the day begin.  The decision to do a First Look with our couples is about 50/50.  Many of our clients feel that by doing a First Look, they can be away from the details, the guests, the nosy cousins, and the vendors when they see each other for the first time on the wedding day.  They love that they share that first moment together alone. Some have told us after, that it brings them a complete sense of calm and happiness.

Ultimately, a First Look can give brides the opportunity to soak in the entire moment when they actually walk down the aisle.  They get to see the expressions on their friends and family members faces, hear the music, and take in the beauty of their surroundings.  Instead of only focusing on getting down the aisle to her groom.

Another perk of a First Look is it leads to a smoother photo shoot during Cocktail Hour.  The First Look gives couples the ability to get many formal bridal party pictures out of the way before the wedding.  This is awesome for couples that want to join in on their Cocktail Hour.

We have no preference either way. We only want what makes our couples happy.  Most often couples fall into the "wedding trap" and feel that they have to follow the "rules of weddings." The most important rule for weddings is to do what makes you happy! It's your wedding! Will you have a First Look on your big day?

Prop It Up!

With all of the special keepsakes that you purchase while planning for your wedding (your dress and accessories, his cuff links, maybe a cake topper or champagne flutes) most couples forget one important thing! Photographs!

Those of you planning a wedding know that photography can be a big part of your budget.  So why not add more pizzazz to your photos! Incorporate more than just people into your engagement and wedding photos and make them truly memorable. Adding props to your wedding photography lets your personality shine and add a unique style to your photos. Choose props that show your personality. They can, and will,  create stunning pictures.

Try using:
books
chalkboards
flowers
cars
masks
antique furniture
mirrors
fans
parasols
sparklers
paper signs
balloons
mustaches
funny glasses
hats
pets
sports interests
bubbles
picture frames
instruments
whatever your heart desires

Be sure to speak to your photographer in advance.  Keep them in the loop to what you are looking to get out of the photos.  Maybe even give them the props in advance. If they don't know you are planning to use props, they can't help you use them. Above is an awesome photograph, totally set up by our Groom Lian for the engagement photos. Below is our Groom Pete with his boys! (James Bond and friends!)  ;- )

How do you plan to Prop It Up?!
